In conjunction with the 150th anniversary of its creation, the Museum will have the Provisional Constitution of the Confederate States of America on view to the public for a limited time. This rarely displayed, priceless piece of American history will be displayed from January 18, 2011 through February 18, 2011.

Civil War Ghost Watch at Centre Hill Museum

Centre Hill Mansion has been the home of many notable Virginia families and has played host to presidents Abraham Lincoln and William Howard Taft. As the Civil War drew to a close the mansion served as the headquarters for Federal soldiers under the command of General George L. Hartsuff. For several years on the evening of January 24, the owners of Centre Hill heard what they believed to be the ghosts of Civil War soldiers marching up and down the dome’s staircase. Will this be the year when some of the former residents make an appearance? Open 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Admission: adults $5.00 and children under 12 $3.00.

Servant Life in the Confederate White House: A Themed Tour

The White House of the Confederacy’s household staff was a diverse group of enslaved African-Americans, free blacks, Irish immigrants and a German florist. This tour will introduce visitors to the servants and describe the roles they played in the daily operation of the house.
