Centre Hill's Holiday Open House

Centre Hill Museum’s holiday open house will be held on December 4th and 5th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Phyllis Haislip author of three young adult novels about Petersburg during the Civil War will be signing her books from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The books will be available for purchase in the museum’s gift shop. Local youth performing group Limelight Talent will be presenting skits based on Haislip’s books every hour. “Scrooge” will be performed by Limelight at 3 p.m. both days. Children’s activities will be offered. Admission is free. Built in 1823 by Revolutionary War veteran Robert Bolling IV, Centre Hill features three examples of American architectural styles and was the site of two presidential visits, Abraham Lincoln in 1865 and William Taft in 1909. Petersburg, Then and NowThe Petersburg Department of Tourism, Museums & Visitors Services, in conjunction with Friday for the Arts!, invites you to attend a book presentation and signing by Laura Willoughby, Curator of Collections and author of Petersburg Postcards, on Friday, December 10, 2010, at the Siege Museum, 15 West bank Street from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The book presentation will be at 7:00 pm.Petersburg, Then and Now features pairings of historic and contemporary photographs documenting places and events throughout Petersburg's history. Historic subjects include: architecture, Civil War photographs, community events, and educational and religious institutions. The majority of the contemporary photographs were taken from the same vantage point as the historic image, documenting the social and physical changes experienced by the community over time.Light refreshments will be served.
