Civil War Drawings from the Becker Collection

An exhibition of rarely seen first-hand drawings that document the Civil War will open at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts on January 15, 2011. These unique sketches, once thought to have been lost, will be on view until April 3, 2011.

Provisional Confederate Constitution on Display

In conjunction with the 150th anniversary of its creation, the Museum will have the Provisional Constitution of the Confederate States of America on view to the public for a limited time. This rarely displayed, priceless piece of American history will be displayed from January 18, 2011 through February 18, 2011.

Servant Life in the Confederate White House: A Themed Tour

The White House of the Confederacy’s household staff was a diverse group of enslaved African-Americans, free blacks, Irish immigrants and a German florist. This tour will introduce visitors to the servants and describe the roles they played in the daily operation of the house.
